Windows Whistler development schedule

Microsoft will release Windows Millennium Edition (Me) for sale in 5 days, but work is already underway on the successor that will finally unite Windows 2000 and Windows Me.

Windows codename Whistler will be based on the NT kernel are based and, as already reported, will bring many innovations with it. According to a close Microsoft source, Microsoft has the following development schedule for the new Windows, aka Windows.Net 1.0:

  • Beta 1: October 11, 2000
  • Beta 2: December 6, 2000
  • RC 1: February 14, 2001
  • RC 2: March 21, 2001
  • RTM: April 18, 2001

According to this, the aim is to have the product ready in 8 months, and it will be on the market two to three months later. Compared to the development time of Windows 2000, Windows Whistler has set a very tight schedule that now only has to be adhered to.
