Windows NT: No SP 7
Microsoft has announced that there will be no more service packs for the Windows NT operating system, which will expire in 2002. With this step, Microsoft confirms the rumor that work on Service Pack 7.0 has been stopped. So the last major update is currently the service pack 6.0a, which was released in 1999.
In autumn of this year, however, there should be a 'security pack' of all known hot fixes to to close known security gaps in the operating system. Microsoft justifies the discontinuation of work on Service Pack 7.0 with the rapid decline in downloads of the current updates, which shows that customers are not interested in support for Windows NT.
