Windows Media Player 9 leaked

On Friday, a beta version of Microsoft's Media Player 9 went online, which offers a first preview of the upcoming 'Windows Media 9 Series', which has been codenamed 'Corona' until now.

The 'Corona' technologies include new versions of the media player, new Windows media audio and video codecs and the Windows Media Encoder. The Media Player 9 appears outwardly like its older counterpart, functions for DVD copying or a 'Service' button for using online services such as Pressplay and MusicNet, with the option of simply downloading music in 'Libraries', should be added. The biggest enhancement for home users is arguably the ability to copy DVD movies to hard drive. It is still unclear, but cannot be ruled out, whether there will also be the option of creating DVD films yourself.

The full features of the final version will probably not be available until the public beta of the Windows Media 9 series is released September 4th at the release in Los Angeles.
