Will Telekom be spared?
According to 'Focus', the future head of the Bonn regulatory authority for telecommunications and post (RegTP) has to adhere to certain 'rules of the game'. So if he wants to get to the top, he should 'spare' the ex-monopolists Deutsche Telekom and Deutsche Post.
As it is said, the current deputy of the outgoing RegTP President Klaus-Dieter Scheurle, Matthias Kurth, should only be Scheurle's successor if he decides in favor of Telekom when deciding on flat-rate Internet tariffs and the local network. In addition, he should also vote for a possible extension of the postal letter monopoly. The chief post is practically certain to him if he acts in the interests of Telekom and Post. Telekom’s competitors are facing Federal Finance Minister Hans Eichel with the fact that he put pressure on Scheurle and thus forced his resignation. The German Industry and Trade Day (DIHT) describes Scheurle's resignation as a false signal, while the FDP describes it as a 'defeat for the competition'. Let's hope that the focus just didn't work properly.
