Waiting for new stepping of the VIA KT266

As early as next month, VIA plans to release a new stepping, i.e. a revised hardware version, of the KT266, which should increase both the performance and the stability of the chipset.

The 'new' chipset should, however Despite rumors to the contrary, it will not be given a new name like KT266 Pro, or KT266A, VIA will not increase anything more than the revision number of the chip. Nevertheless, or name or not, industry giants like Abit, Asus or Iwill are waiting for this new chipset version before they in turn offer motherboards with double data rate SDRAM support for socket A. Until then you will have to be content with the MSI K7T266 motherboard for better or worse, because other boards with this chipset are difficult to find and get.
