VIA presents new mobile chipset

VIA yesterday presented the 'VIA ProSavageDDR PN266T' chipset, which supports Socket 370 and DDR266 RAM. This means that Intel Pentium 3 M (obil), Pentium 3 and Celeron, as well as the VIA C3, can be used in notebooks with this chipset.

As the name makes clear, VIA has the Integrated graphics unit of the S3 ProSavage8, which already supports AGP 8x and 133 MHz FSB. The southbridge offers 2-channel AC97 sound, an integrated AC97 modem, ATA33/66/100 support and 6 USB ports. VIA also offers the option of integrating a 3Com network MAC. According to the company, the fastest mobile chipset for the processors mentioned above is manufactured in 0.22 µ technology with three layers at TSMC and is to be available for OEMs with immediate effect.
