Audio Winbench 99

  • The code number '99' may indicate an outdated benchmark. But the program is still doing its job today. The Audio Winbench measures the load on the main processor for various sound qualities. The result is a guarantee for the quality of the onboard codec. These often do their job rather badly and are an imposition for any processor, especially on slower PCs.

The processor load caused by the in-house VT1616 6-channel AC'97 audio codec, is quite acceptable and hardly gives cause for criticism. But what about the quality? We will deal with this point next.

Audio Analyzer

  • The audio analyzer tests sound chips for their quality. The line-out and line-in of the sound card are connected via a loop-through cable so that the 'audio analyzer' can compare the transmitted and picked up signal directly with a reference value.

The onboard sound codec does not use much of the processor, but the performance offered is also bad. The audio analyzer doesn’t leave the VT1616 good and only gives it a 'Poor' rating. He narrowly escaped the 'Very Poor' rating.
