Toshiba presents five new 1.8 'hard drives

The Toshiba Storage Device Division is introducing five new 1.8-inch hard drives for use in consumer electronics devices. They offer the largest storage capacities and highest recording densities to date for 1.8-inch Toshiba drives.

Toshiba expanded added five small form factor hard disk drives (SFF-HDD) to its 1.8-inch portfolio. The MK1214GAH model was specially developed for compact notebooks and, with 120 GB on two hard drives, offers the largest storage capacity of Toshiba's 1.8-inch hard drives for PC products to date. In addition, the Toshiba drive currently has the highest recording density of 295.1 Mbit/mm². The 80 GB model MK8025GAL works with just one disk and weighs just 45 grams, making it particularly suitable for use in MP3 and video players. Both models offer an access time of 15 ms and work at 4,200 revolutions per minute.

In addition to the 120 GB and 80 GB drives, Toshiba has three other new HDDs on offer. They have 60 GB of storage capacity and rotate at 3,600 revolutions per minute, which should make them very quiet hard drives. The HDDs MK6014GAL and MK6028GAL offer a recording density of 257.9 or 297.7 Mbit/mm².
