Three 40x CD burners in the test: Traxdata, LG and Waitec in comparison

Benchmarks

The current Ahead Nero Burning ROM burning software was at our side to determine the performance which was used on the one hand to determine theoretical performance data and on the other hand for measurements in real use. For the best possible comparison with the burners already tested, the same mix of MP3, Zip and Exe files and videos was used in the data write test, which was also varied in its memory size in the sizes 699MB, 494MB and 300MB. As always, audio titles with a total size of 646 MB were used for writing audio CDs. In addition, it was checked how far the respective burner can overburn a CD.

Write data

From the Waitec Storm 40X, we can unfortunately only deliver assumed values, as this only worked with 20 times the speed in our CD speed simulation in all experiments, but had no problems with the actual burning.

The GCE-8400B from LG had The simulation obviously had problems with the inserted simulation CD, as it throttled the speed shortly after halfway through the inserted CD, so that we estimated the minute at which the burner reached the full 40-fold speed and thus calculated the average.

The GCE-8400B from LG has the highest startup speed, closely followed by the Asus 4012A burner, whereby the Waitec Storm must also be in these regions according to our estimates. Then with the CDRW 401248 tx and the Yamaha 3200E as well as the Iomega Predator and the Asus 3212A, two groups are formed that start to burn at 18 and 16 times the speed, respectively, whereby it is certainly interesting that the older Yamaha 3200E 24/12/40 burner starts to burn at the same high speed as the new 40/12/48 burner from Traxdata.

When burning 300MB of data, the GCE-8400B, Asus 4012A and Waitec Storm 40X should because of their higher Initial speed ahead. When using the full CD capacity, the order could be GCE-8400B, CDRW 401248 tx and Asus 4012A, while predictions about the performance of the Waitec Storm 40x are difficult to make.

      CD conflict?!

At this point, our Verm This has to be confirmed, because when burning 494MB of data the expected order is set, whereby the GCE-8400B cannot be found at the top despite the highest start-up speed.

When writing 300MB, values are really obtained that come quite close to the theoretically determined values, so that forms roughly the expected order. Based on this test, an initial speed of 19-20 is assumed for the Waitec Storm, as this is close to the initial speed of the Yamaha 3200E.
