The Secrets of the Detonator 7.52
With the unofficial release of the Detonator 7.52, many of you have certainly been waiting for the announced stereo support for 3D glasses. But surprisingly, in this driver version there was not even an indication of support for 3D glasses in the source code.
Des Furthermore, the version of the OpenGL driver is mysteriously older than the version contained in the also unofficially available Detonator 7.17. In addition, it was possible to activate functioning stereo support for OpenGL in the Detonator 7.17 for Windows 9x/Me through some registry settings. So what happened here? The release notes of the Detonator 7.52 shed some light on this. These release notes refer to the Series 3 Detonator and list all changes since the first Series 3 Detonator, the driver with version number 6.11 to the driver with version number 6.88. Interestingly, the next listed driver is the Detonator 7.50 and the 7.52, but there is no trace of the Detonator 7.17 here. The only plausible explanation for this would be that NVidia has changed the names of the drivers internally and thus the drivers that we previously knew as Detonator 7.xx are now the Detonator version 8.xx. Another reason for this thought is that the Detonator 7.52 are not optimized for DirectX8 as originally assumed, but the 7.17 is.
