The Intel Itanium is late
First denied and now confirmed after the good quarterly figures became known - the Intel Itanium will be delayed. As the reason for the now officially confirmed postponement, Intel cites a few minor detail improvements to the processor, which should make it completely error-free.
The release date announced by Intel for the 64-bit CPU, which was previously named Merced, is now in the 4th Quarter, although at this point only so-called pilot systems are to be delivered. Complete Itanium systems with the corresponding software should then be available in the first half of 2001.
