The illegal trade in email addresses is booming

According to the Electronic Commerce Forum, eight million private email addresses are currently in the hands of address dealers. For the most part, these should be equipped with the note that the user is open to advertising of any kind, even if the user has never said yes.

Users of large email service providers such as T-Online, Web.de or GMX would be loud the association even received e-mails stating that they had consented to this themselves. The Electronic Commerce Forum expressly warns against replying to such emails, as this confirms that this email address is correct. Furthermore, users are advised to only pass on the main address to friends and business partners and to purchase a second email address for e.g. competitions.
