Telekom with a loss of 3.5 billion euros

For the first time since going public five years ago, Telekom made losses, with special items a loss of 3.5 billion euros remains after Steurn. However, Telekom was able to further increase its sales compared to the previous year.

Last year, Telekom had made a profit of 5.9 billion euros, but this year, among other things, the costs for the UMTS licenses came into play. These hit alone with 1 billion euros, the purchase from the US mobile phone company Voice Stream even with 2.4 billion euros. However, the numbers in the core business, mainly in mobile communications, have risen. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) rose by 17 percent to 15.1 billion euros, and consolidated sales by 18 percent to 48.3 billion euros.
