Talking displays will soon be a reality?

The Japanese group Matsushita, best known for the Panasonic and Technics brands, has developed a flat display that can generate sounds directly via its surface. The construction is not at all complex.

Only a special transparent film is stretched in front of the actual surface at a distance of a tenth of a millimeter. The tones are created because the air in this fine space is set in motion. According to Matsushita, it is relatively inexpensive to manufacture because only a few parts are required. Use in cell phones or PDAs would be conceivable. If Matsushita has its way, car and house windows will soon be covered with this film. Regarding availability, Matsushita said that they wanted to bring the corresponding bones onto the market this year.
