T-Online is deep in the red
According to preliminary information, T-Online made a loss of 35 million euros in the third quarter of this year, the total loss in 2001 thus added up to 158 million euros after the third quarter - more than in the whole of 2000 (125 million euros loss)!
Compared to the same period in the previous year, sales through the T-Online portal were below Increase by 77 percent to 108 million euros through cooperation with Axel Springer Verlag and ZDF. Compared to the 2nd quarter, there is still an increase of 10%. Obviously, this could not change the negative balance, just as little as the total turnover, which, in contrast to the first three quarters in 2000, rose by approx. 50% from 543 to 809 million euros. T-Online boss Thomas Holtrop apparently hopes for more positive figures due to the analog/ISDN flat rate that will finally expire on December 11, 2001 for everyone. Around 133,000 customers are currently surfing with this tariff, which of course does not exactly benefit T-Online's balance sheet. The number of DSL flat-rate customers, which rose by 76% to 578,000 in the third quarter of 2001 alone, was conspicuously positive. T-Online currently has a total of 9.8 million customers in Europe! T-Online plans to publish the final figures on November 29th.
