SYSTEMS: radio network with up to 108 Mbit/s
The company Proxim is presenting its new wireless LAN (WLAN) system at Systems, which will work with up to 54 Mbit/s or 108 Mbit/s according to the IEEE 802.11a standard.
The advantage of the new IEEE 802.11a standard is the frequency range of 5 GHz. Normal wireless networks operate in the 2.4 GHz range, which is also used by cordless telephones and Bluetooth devices. This not only increases the speed from the previous 11 Mbit/s (IEEE-802.11b) with data doubling to 108 Mbit/s, it also minimizes the susceptibility to interference. However, after the standard has been approved in the USA, it must also be certified in Europe. In addition to PC cards and access points, Proxim will also present a mini PCI module that is suitable for installation in notebooks and other mobile devices. The whole thing can then be seen at the stand of Brainworks, the partner of Proxim, in hall B5, stand no. B5.149.
