Support for AMD Hammer from graphics chip manufacturers

AMD announced at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) that the leading manufacturers of graphics chips 3DLabs, ATI, Matrox and SiS are planning to develop graphics chips that will support the upcoming Opteron and the eighth generation of Athlon processors.

With AGP 8x, HyperTransport and x86-64 technologies, AMD will use open industry standards to implement graphics technologies in both 32 -bit as well as in 64-bit environments. The target group includes both gamers and professionals who need higher performance for intensive graphic calculations.

It is well and good that AMD was able to convince many large graphics chip manufacturers of the hammer processor generation, the real one Industry leader nVidia, however, obviously has other plans. Or is it just a matter of course that a company like nVidia will support the upcoming AMD processors without any major announcements?
