STM is withdrawing from the graphics market

As STM, the third largest chip manufacturer in the world announced today, they want to get out of the production of 3D chips for the PC market. We are currently looking for a buyer for the PC graphics division, which is engaged in the production of Kyro chips from the developer ImgTec/PowerVR.

Last year, sales of 15 million US dollars were achieved in this area earned. The reason that this sale takes place in the course of concentrating on development for the basic business in the set-top box, DVD and digital TV area, however, seems a bit flimsy, since the development and the rights are still in the hands of ImgTec/PowerVR.

ImgTec has since announced several inquiries from well-known chip manufacturers who are interested in continuing or accessing the ImgTec/PowerVR technology. There is already a discussion about this in our forum .
