Sony with record results

Sony can proudly present its results for the third quarter 2001/2002. After all, you are one of the few companies that do not have to contend with heavy losses. Quite the opposite: Sales even increased by 7.5 percent compared to the previous year.

Sony thus earned sales of 19.4 billion euros. Although net profit fell by 14.4 percent to 542.6 million euros, it was possible to increase operating profit by 1.36 billion euros, which is even above the analysts' already positive expectations. Sony itself attributes the good results to the currently weak yen and the good sales of the Playstation 2, which allowed a profitable business for the first time. In this area alone, Sony's sales totaled 3.25 billion euros, an increase of 63 percent. After the losses in the second quarter, the company's electronics division brought in an operating profit of 602 million euros on sales of 13.14 billion euros. Here Sony is 47 percent below the profit of the same quarter last year. In view of these figures, Sony is very positive about the fourth fiscal quarter and expects total sales of 65 billion euros for the whole year
