Sony brings handhelds with digital cameras and color displays

Sony presented its new CLIÉ handheld NR70V at CeBit, which has a number of interesting gadgets to offer. In addition to a rotatable high-resolution color display and a built-in digital camera, a keyboard is also integrated.

The color display of the new CLIÉ can be rotated 180 degrees, displays 65,536 colors sharply and offers one of the highest resolutions currently available at 320 x 480 pixels . To work with the pen typical of handhelds, the display is rotated and flipped over. Entries via the integrated keyboard are also possible with the display extended.

The integrated digital camera with snapshot function is another Highlight. The integrated mini camera can be rotated 300 degrees. The device can also play videos or music files, e.g. in MP3 format. The Memory Stick slot is used to exchange audio files, video clips, digital photos and other files between the CLIÉ and numerous other devices. The integrated infrared remote control guarantees the correct connection to DVD players, televisions and video recorders.

The operating system of the Sony NR70V, which is driven by a 66 MHz Dragonball Super VZ processor, is Palm OS version 5.1. The device itself is expected to be available in stores from summer for a still unknown price.
