SiS648 announced for March

There are only two manufacturers for PC2700 DDR-RAM and a few matching boards on the market, so SiS rushes forward and announces the SiS648 with 133 MHz FSB (533 MHz) and PC3200 DDR-RAM support with 400 MHz clock frequency for March 2002 .

The problem, however, is that there are not even specified specifications for the PC2700. The products presented so far are therefore not exactly coordinated with each other and problems can quickly arise because boards that are designed for 133 MHz cannot automatically cope with 166 MHz as well. It is interesting that there are already specifications for 400 MHz DDR-RAM chips, but not yet for the necessary boards. These problems and the lack of availability seem to bother SiS little. The SiS648 Pentium 4 chipset will already support the 533 MHz FSB of the future Pentium 4 and have AGP 8x, USB 2.0 and Firewire.

The fact that SiS is more than confident about the future is also made clear by the Announcement to increase monthly wafer production by 40% from 25,000 to 35,000. In addition, the aim should be to increase the OEM sector's share of sales, which has so far been very low, at 25%. Other manufacturers generate far more than 50% of their total income here.
