Security vulnerability in IE and MSN Messenger

A security hole in Microsoft Internet Explorer makes it possible to gain complete control over MSN Messenger. Attackers have access to all contact data and can also send e-mails via the program.

Microsoft has been aware of the security gap in the JavaScript area of IE for two months, but it is still no patch in sight. The bug affects all IE versions from 5.5 and various MSN Messenger versions. The only remedy at the moment is to deactivate ActiveX in the browser or to use alternative messenger programs.
