Sales of Dreamcast increased tenfold

After Sega had lowered the price of the Dreamcast in Japan to the equivalent of 180 DM, sales of the Dreamcast there now increased tenfold. In the last week alone, 48,000 copies were sold. Sony's Playstation 2 follows closely behind with 40,000 units.

It is not yet clear whether Sega will adjust the Dreamcast price in Germany to the current Japanese price. However, due to the sharp price reduction, Sega should be able to sell all copies of the Dreamcast even after production has stopped. But you will no longer be able to make a profit with the Dreamcast. Last year's loss was already $ 400 million, so Sega was forced to discontinue Dreamcast in order not to make even greater losses this year. The hope is to be able to compensate for the loss of the past year by concentrating on profitable game development.
