Rumors about ATi and nVidia

The market leaders in graphics cards, ATi and nVidia, are rumored to have the new generation of graphics chips in the starting blocks. The chips, some of which have already been officially announced by nVidia, should go into mass production at the beginning of next year.

The beginning will be make the nV17 already announced as a mobile version, which will serve the low-cost area. The new high-end chip nV25 will follow later. ATi, too, who have shaken nVidia's supremacy with their excellent Radeon8500 , should be quite advanced when it comes to the start of their next chip. As could be heard from the environment of the chip manufacturer TSMC in Taiwan, where both ATi and nVidia have their chips manufactured, the new chip will be codenamed 'RV250'. In terms of architecture, it doesn't seem to differ too much from the current R8500 chips, but if everything goes according to plan, it will probably be clocked significantly higher when it is to see the light of day in March next year. It seems strange in this context that the name prefix ' V ', which is currently used on the ATi Radeon7500, whose chip is code-named 'RV200', does not usually indicate a high-end chip . The R300, to be announced in the middle of next year, would be responsible for this, but no details have yet been leaked.
