QDI announces new products with i845E/G
The series of well-known PlatiniX mainboards has been expanded to include new models that support the new Pentium 4 with a 533 MHz frontside bus. The new PlatiniX 2D/533, PlatiniX 2E and PlatiniX 8 will be delivered in May.
The PlatiniX 2D/533 is the 533 MHz version of Legend QDI's PlatiniX 2D-A and is based on the new Intel i845E chipset, which, however, can be found on the mainboard with the outdated ICH2. Obviously, QDI only uses the ICH2 to keep prices at the lowest possible level. With a suggested retail price of 109 euros, it is indeed surprisingly cheap. On the other hand, the PlatiniX 2E, which is also new, uses the 'real' i845E with the standard ICH4 and consequently USB 2.0 support. In addition, the PlatiniX 2E has a LAN interface for 10/100 Mbps Ethernet. This board will change hands for 129 euros.
Another new product is the PlatiniX 2E-6A (135 euros ), which is identical to the PlatiniX 2E, but is equipped with Dolby 5.1 Surround Stereo Support. A S/PDIF output on the board supports Dolby Digital AC-3 sound effects. The PlatiniX 8 motherboard is based on the Intel 845G/ICH4 chipset. Like the PlatiniX2E, the PlatiniX 8 also has 2 USB 2.0 ports and is also equipped with Intel's new onboard graphics. The PlatiniX 8 changes hands for no less than 139 euros.
The products with the chipsets from SiS including the Superb 4/533 and Superb 4E boards will also be available for the European market in a very short time.
