Promise introduces the Ultra133 controller
At the Comdex, Promise showed the add-on controller Ultra133 TX2, which should be on the market in around 2 weeks. As the name already shows, this PCI card offers two additional IDE channels with four connection options, which support the new ATA-133 standard created by Maxtor.
This new standard is downward compatible, so that older IDE devices can be connected without any problems. The few hard drives available to date that support this standard also come exclusively from Maxtor, as the other manufacturers are apparently still holding back and are waiting for the Serial ATA announced for next year. It remains to be seen which interface will prevail, but Intel has already announced that it will rely entirely on Serial ATA. The Ultra133 TX2 will be available from the beginning of December and cost around US $ 60.
