Premiere buys Giga

Premiere buys Giga

As it became known today, the Munich-based pay-TV provider Premiere is taking over the TV channel Giga, which specializes in PC and video games as well as general youth issues and can now only be seen on digital TV and on the Internet.

The previous shareholders NBC Universal, Cuneo AG Wellington Partners and Atlas Ventures are selling all of their shares and making Premiere the sole owner. It is not known exactly what the pay-TV provider plans to do with the new channel. What is certain, however, is that Giga will also be freely available in the future. Until September 2005, Giga could also be seen in the analog cable network. Not least because of cost reasons, the mother NBC gave her latest project at the time, the special interest broadcaster Das Vierte, the priority and thus also the license.
