Playstation 2 from May with kit for desktop computer

At CeBit 2002, Sony will present the future of the PlayStation 2. A live demo of the first online game on the German market, the optional hard drive and the Linux kit will be shown. From May 2002 it will be possible to use the Linux kit to expand the PlayStation 2 into a desktop computer.

The kit consists of a 40 GB hard drive, a 100MBit network card, two Linux DVDs and a VGA adapter for connecting a screen. This offer is aimed at end users who already have programming experience and can adapt the software to expand the PS2 functionality. One can argue about the sense and nonsense of this extension.

Some game highlights for the Playstation 2 will also be available for a first test at CeBit. Games such as the role-playing game Final Fantasy X, Virtua Fighter 4, GT Next, Tekken 4 and Formula One 2002 can be tested on numerous demo displays.
