Pilot phase T-DSL via satellite
With download rates of up to 768 kbit/s, Telekom would also like to offer T-DSL for customers in rural areas, but the disadvantage is that the return channel is still via modem or ISDN, with the correspondingly low data rate.
For data traffic via satellite, Telekom has devised a priority model in which data with high priority comes first, data with lower priority can only be transmitted later. This is in line with the various pricing models offered for T-DSL via satellite. For the 500 participants in the pilot phase, there is no provision fee of € 99, the hardware required is available at reduced prices. The first offer, 'Volume Model', costs € 19.90 per month and includes 500 MB of data reception with the highest priority; each additional MB costs € 0.05. With the '0.5 gigabyte' flat rate model, € 39.90 per month is charged, but only the first 500 MB are transferred with the highest priority. The last model is called 'Flatrate 1 Gigabyte', costs € 49.90 and offers 1 GB of high-priority data volume. With all three models there are also the costs for modem or ISDN data traffic.
