Pentium III with 1.13 GHz at the end of July
Intel plans to launch the Pentium III with a clock rate of 1.13 GHz on July 31st. It will be operated with a front side bus of 133MHz and a multiplier of 8.5. As you can probably imagine, the 1.13GHz PIII will be just as rare as the 1GHz PIII at the time, even if Intel claims otherwise.
The processor will initially only be available for Slot1, Socket 370 Models (FC-PGA) are to follow, however. The new Pentium III is based on a coppermine core and requires a core voltage of 1.65 volts. In my opinion, the introduction or rather the announcement of a 1.13 GHz CPU is the last attempt to assert itself against AMD, which, as is already known, has been producing Thunderbirds with clock rates well over 1 GHz in Dresden for some time.
