Pentium 4 sale meets Intel's expectations
Intel announced today at the IDF that sales of the Pentium 4 have so far been in line with expectations and that all Pentium 4 processors shipped in America in December 2000 have been sold. However, Intel did not provide exact numbers. In view of the price and often the features of the PCs, this seems very doubtful.
The price reduction by Intel on December 10th, 2000 and the introduction of the Pentium 4 with 1.3 GHz are not likely to increase sales of the Processors because the end user did not benefit from this price cut until much later. Intel plans to sell 20 million Pentium 4 processors this year. This is to be made possible with massive price reductions and an even faster introduction of newer processors.
