After the Pentium 4 was released yesterday, numerous test reports of the new Intel processor are online today. The first rumors and benchmarks that leaked in advance have been fully confirmed.

The Pentium 4, be it with 1.4 or 1.5 GHz, can outperform the competition in games such as Quake 3 who benefit from high storage transfer rates. However, this advantage only lasts in low resolutions, since the graphics card is the bottleneck in high resolutions. In all other applications or games, however, the 1.5GHz Kollos has to beat a 1.2GHz Athlon. Thus, one can currently only advise against the Pentium 4, as current applications are not optimized for the new technologies in the Pentium 4, such as SSE2.
