Pentium 4 confirmed with 2 GHz
Intel has now confirmed that a 2 GHz Pentium 4 can be expected from the beginning of the third quarter. At $ 562, it will probably cost $ 210 more than the 1.7 GHz version. The Pentium 4 with 2 GHz will also be the last processor that Intel will manufacture using 0.18 µm technology. From the 4th quarter onwards, all successors based on the Northwood will be manufactured using 0.13 µm technology.
The smaller structure size results in lower power consumption. The Pentium 4 with 2 GHz will consume around 105 watts. It remains to be seen whether Intel will have eliminated the current delivery bottlenecks by July, when the 2 GHz variant is expected to come onto the market. At least Intel cannot keep up with the 1.7 GHz Pentium 4.
