Pentium 4 boards are getting cheaper. But...

Asian mainboard manufacturers have announced that the price of P4 boards can be expected to drop by around 25% in autumn.

Thus, with Intel's new i845 chipset, not only are there no acquisition costs for expensive RDRAM (the chip enables the operation of cheap DDR RAM), but the boards also tend to be priced below the current i850 Versions lie. A price of around US $ 110 seems realistic. However, there is a possibility that Intel will compensate for the drop in prices there by increasing the P4 prices. Since the i845 will in all probability only be delivered with the new Socket 478, Intel could manipulate the prices upwards on the specially designed Pentium 4 with a Northwood core (0.13µ). However, the customer would still have access to VIA's P4X266 chipset, which also enables the 'old' P4 to use DDR RAM.
