Palm OS 5 delivered to manufacturers and developers

PalmSource, known for its PDA operating systems, delivers the now long-awaited Palm OS in version 5 to manufacturers and developers. Most important new feature: Support for processors with ARM 7 core.

Version 4.1 of the PDA operating system was running with the Dragonball CPUs from Motorola. With the new support for ARM-7 CPUs, PalmSource expects, among other things, an increase in speed of up to 400 percent. Other features of version 5 will also be the multitasking capability, 16-bit sound, a higher resolution of up to a maximum of 320x320 pixels and support for wireless communication technology such as Bluetooth. According to information from PalmSource, the new operating system should be backwards compatible with old applications. The popular hacks, on the other hand, should no longer work. Availability or even prices for devices with the new software were not yet to be found out, here the manufacturers of the corresponding hardware are also asked.
