Online discontinues powerline project

After three other Powerline providers, Oneline AG is now also discontinuing its offer. Data transmission via the power grid is not yet ready for the market or profitable. After this step, the future for powerline technology looks bleak.

Oneline AG is going to make its Internet offering set by power supply. This makes it the fourth provider, after Nortel, Berlin BeWAG and Siemens, that no longer wants to offer the Internet connection. The only providers with the technology that are still left are RWE and the Mannheim energy supplier MVV. According to E.On, the project has been discontinued because the technology will only be ready in about two years. Regulations of electromagnetic emissions and the blocking of important frequencies on the power grid make the project not profitable nowadays. Besides, there is the great pressure of the Telekom with their fast, and cheap, T-DSL offer. According to Oneline, the price cannot be kept up.
