nVidia plans nForce with GeForce3
As nVidia announced today as part of the long-awaited Computex computer fair through Dan Vivoli, it will increase its own motherboard chipset 'nForce' (code name 'Crush') in 18-24 months and give it the new GeForce3 as an integrated graphics unit.
This step certainly sounds a little late, but the chipset should firstly be a product for the low-cost market and secondly, onboard solutions always lag a little behind stand-alone devices. However, there is another aspect to be gleaned from the announcement. nVidia seems to have great expectations for the nForce and its success. At least VIA is already planning its own chip with integrated graphics in order to regain market shares that may have been lost to nVidia. How nVidia will establish itself in the market and what effects this will have on prices can certainly be eagerly awaited.
