Power consumption

For the measurements of the power consumption a Commercially available consumption monitor that you can also get at the local oneElectricity supplier can borrow, used. The total power consumption of the test system is measured. The division between idle and load operation also applies here. The latter is simulated using 3DMark06 with a resolution of 1600x1200 as well as 4x anti-aliasing and 16x anisotropic filter.

Yes the G92-GPU on the GeForce 8800 GT had no chance against the very good performance in terms of power consumption against an RV670 on the Radeon HD 3800 cards from ATi, even if the graphics card from California did not do so badly. Logically, this does not change with the GeForce 8800 GTS 512 (although it has to be noted that ATi does not currently have a single 3D accelerator that is in the performance class of the new Nvidia graphics card). We measured a power consumption of 194 watts under Windows (meaning the entire PC here), which is interestingly slightly below the results of a GeForce 8800 GT. In terms of power consumption, the two GeForce cards do not do anything in idle mode.

The GeForce consumes under load 8800 GTS 512 has more power than the GeForce 8800 GT due to the higher frequencies and the additional execution units. We measured a maximum of 268 watts, which means that the GeForce 8800 GTS 512 is on the same level as an old GeForce 8800 GTS. In comparison, the GeForce 8800 GT uses a little less power with 248 watts. Since the Point of View GeForce 8800 GTS 512 Exo Edition is clocked faster, the measured values ​​are slightly higher. Both 3D accelerators draw the same amount of power from the socket under Windows, but the faster Exo Edition needs about under loadfive watts more than the reference design of the GeForce 8800 GTS 512.
