Crysis

Crysis - the name alone says it already everything. Hardly any other game received so much attention before its releaselike the first-person shooter from Crytek, which is the unofficial sequel to the hit action Far Cry. Far Cry actually says it all: Because hardly any other game immediately makes you think of a sunny beach and large palm trees. And it is exactly this (and much more) that you see again in Crysis, even if you will hardly recognize it. Like Far Cry, Crysis sets new standards in terms of graphics and raises the bar so high that it will probably be some time before another game will even achieve the graphic quality of Crysis. The Direct3D-10 API, high dynamic range rendering, parallax occlusion mapping, soft shadows, motion blur, depth of field, soft particles and a lot more are offered at Crysis. The hardware requirements are correspondingly high and even the fastest computer can easily break a sweat. As a benchmark, we use the integrated GPU time demo in Crysis, which can be run using a batch file.

Everyone can understand the benchmark on their own PC at home. In order for this to work correctly under Windows Vista, the Crysis.exe must be given the attribute 'Run as administrator'. Then the batch file Benchmark_GPU.bat hidden under 'C: Program Files Electronic Arts Crytek Crysis SP Demo Bin32' works. The settings last selected in the game are used for the benchmarks. Care must be taken. Under 'C: Program Files Electronic Arts Crytek Crysis SP Demo Game Config' you can use benchmark_gpu.cfg to set how often the benchmarks should be repeated. So that the benchmark only achieves approximately playable values, we have reset all details from 'Very High' to 'High'. Nevertheless, we continue to use the Direct3D 10 version of Crysis.
