The two new chips increase the number of shader units from a maximum of 32 ( 8600 GT/8700 GT) to 64 (8800M GTS) or 96 (8800M GTX). The memory interface increases to 256 bits. The GeForce 8800M GTX provides a maximum of 31.6 gigabytes per second of memory bandwidth and 24.0 megatexels per second. Both chips have the PureVideo HD engine, which GTS and GTX based on G80 have not yet offered for the desktop (only cards based on G92 have the capability).
The Area-51 m17x is one of the first notebooks to use the new GPUs ( 17 inches) and the Area-51 m15x (15 inches) from Alienware.
