As the district court of Coburg decided, software that was sold in 2001 must be euro-compatible. Thus, the plaintiff was right because he accused the programmer of his chip card reading software for not having the necessary foresight.

The reasoning was that the euro was already a legal currency at that time, even if the average German has still paid with the Deutsche Mark. Only when the programmer retrofits his software accordingly is the buyer, who according to his statements was not aware of this disadvantage of the program, obliged to make further payments. This judgment was published yesterday under the reference number '32 S 193/01'.
