MSI did nothing and steered with the Turbobook GX600 a very special treat for our competition. The 2.6 kg heavyGamer notebook is based on Intel's current Santa Rosa platform and is equipped with a 15.4-inch widescreen display. An absolute highlight of the device is the return of the turbo button (386 times say hello) with which the notebook can be overclocked at the push of a button in order to increase the performance in network operation.
In the competition version of the Turbobook GX600 (GX600-7525VHP Extreme) MSI relies on a 65 nm and 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 (FSB800) with two processor cores based on the Core microarchitecture. For the chipset, the choice fell on Intel's PM965 including ICH8M (code name Crestline). The device is equipped with 2 GB main memory (2x 1024), a 250 GB hard drive and a DVD +/- RW-DL drive. The 15.4-inch non-glare display offers a wonderful resolution of 1680x1050 pixels (WSXGA +). A 1.3 megapixel webcam is also installed above the display, with which out-of-the-box video chats can be carried out using Skype, ICQ, MSN or other applications.
Nvidia's Geforce Go 8600M GT with 512 MB dedicated graphics memory is used as the graphics card. The card supports DirectX 10, is based on the unified shader architecture of the G80 family (G84M chip) and can be used with the help of PureVideo HD (based on the VP2) for accelerated playback of high-resolution video material. External displays and modern televisions can be connected via HDMI. The Turbobook provides 4x USB 2.0, FireWire 400, modem, 1 Gigabit Ethernet, Wireless Lan according to 802.11agn (Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN), Bluetooth and even eSATA as interfaces. The integrated 4-in-1 card reader can be used with memory cards of the type SD, MMC, MS or MS Probypass. An ExpressCard slot is also available for expansion.
The keyboard of the GX600, which is provided with a complete Num block, has 103 keys, of which WASD are highlighted in color. To round off the gaming experience, the delivery of the Turbobook also includes a gaming mouse, a headset and a backpack that matches the design. The notebook ends up with the preinstalled Windows Vista Home Premium and a 9-cell Li-ion battery.
This prize is worth over 1,200 euros. That's why the winning question is a little more difficult in this particular case.
