nForce 615/nForce 620 canceled

As reported by the AMD Zone, at a meeting with nVidia they learned that the planned chipset nForce615/620 has been canceled. This would have enriched the nForce with support for DDR333 memory and probably also added one or the other feature to the integrated graphics.

Apparently nVidia was of the opinion that the nForce, which already offers excellent performance in the 415/420 version, could not benefit significantly from the additional transfer rate of DDR333 memory. This has already become evident on the KT333 chipsets from VIA and the 745 from SiS, as the AthlonXP processor will probably continue to be delivered with an FSB of 133MHz in the soon-to-be Thoroughbred incarnation and thus the system performance will not increase significantly with faster memory would.

Only the integrated graphics (which, in terms of performance, should not be the number 1 reason for selling anyway) can benefit from the additional bandwidth that the nForce is able to deliver thanks to its two-channel interface.

A corresponding press release by nVidia is expected shortly.
