In 2001 Microsoft will bring a new type of application onto the market. Netdocs will become an additional component of the .NET project.

However, since Netdocs is subject to the strictest confidentiality, and since it is promoted in-house at MS by various development departments, it is very difficult to describe the expected range of functions. What has already been filtered out, however, is that Netdocs will be able to process information that is gathered from various sources in order to simplify working in a group via the Internet. E-mail, calendar, instant messaging and personalized document management will be combined in Netdocs; access will only take place via the Internet. The new work area should be based on XML (Extensible Markup Language).
