News about the ATi Mobile M9

After the rumors about the ATi R300, there are now new rumors of 'The Inquirer' about the mobile counterpart, the M9. This should therefore have the 'full R300 functionality', also eight pipelines with four texture units each.

The clock of the M9 produced in 0.15 µ technology is said to be at 350 MHz, incredibly high for a mobile graphics chip. The chip should support DirectX 9.1 as well as pixel and vertex shaders in version 2.0. Up to 256 MB of memory can be used, regardless of whether SD-RAM or DDR-RAM, both of which are addressed via a 128-bit bus. Furthermore, the M9 should be available in two versions, one of which should have up to 32 MB RAM on die, i.e. on the chip. The Inquirer speaks of an expected performance of up to 75 million triangles per second. However, these are basically the same data as the R300, although it is unlikely that the mobile version will have the same performance data as the desktop version. This leaves a lot of scope for speculation here as well.
