New version of Windows Whistler
Microsoft distributed a new version of Windows codenamed Whistler, alias Windows Net 1.0, to selected testers last night. This new version, Build 2257, does not yet have beta status, but it does bring many new functions with it. There is, for example, an extended skin function, similar to Windows Media Player 7.0, or a new start menu.
The first beta version should, if Microsoft has its way, appear in autumn and many other innovations contain. The finished product in a Personal, Professional, Server, and Advanced Server edition should then be available in the second half of 2001 to replace Windows 2000 and Windows Me.
