New speed record for data transmission
Scientists from Bell Labs transported data over a distance of 4000 KM at the unimaginable speed of 2.56 terabits per second. In doing so, they set a new record not only for distance, but also for speed. The old record was 1.6 terabits over 2000 KM.
This was realized with a Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing System (DWDM) developed by Bell Labs and over 64 data channels with 40 gigabits per second each Can transfer data. With this technology, several data streams are transmitted over the same fiber of the optical waveguide.
