New graphics chip from Micron

Micron presented the first data of the new V4400e graphics chip! The graphics chip is said to have 12 MByte DRAM already integrated in the graphics chip, which can be compared with the construction of the L1 cache in CPUs.

The V4400e can therefore have a very high transistor count of 125 million transistors, which is about 5 times the current Geforce cards and 3 times the Pentium 4. Since the external memory is becoming more and more of a bottleneck for current graphics cards, the large graphics card manufacturers will probably also integrate at least parts of the RAM directly into the graphics chip in the near future.
