New email worm: 'Myparty'
As several manufacturers of anti-virus software report, a new email worm with the name W32.Myparty@mm has been on the road since yesterday, Sunday. After opening the attachment 'www.myparty.yahoo.com', the worm searches the address book for email addresses and then sends itself to them.
You can recognize the worm on the subject line by the text 'new photos from my party!' or 'Hello! My party ... It was absolutely amazing! I have attached my web page with new photos! If you can please make color prints of my photos. Thanks!'. So far, no malicious actions have been detected by the worm, but the well-known manufacturers of antivirus software have expanded their signature files as a precautionary measure and are now offering updates for download.
The antivirus manufacturer F-Secure Corporation has meanwhile announced that the worm only spread between January 25 and 29, 2002 and only on NT/2000/XP machines. The worm should not infect Russian PCs, i.e. computers from its country of origin.
