New chipset manufacturer for AMD processors?

The cooperation between the semiconductor manufacturer UMC and AMD is expanded almost every day. After the decision to build the joint Fab12 in Dresden for 30cm wafers and the step to relocate the production of the 0.13µm Barton processor core to UMC's Fab, another step has now followed.

According to “The Taiwanese Commercial Times “, UMC now wants to create another pillar in the chipset market with the production of its own chipset for AMD processors.

The Integrated Technology Express Inc. ( UMC's ITE) announced their plans for chipset development for AMD processors. The plans have already been approved by AMD and ITE has apparently already entered the development phase. Further facts about technical details or a first date have not yet been announced by ITE.
